• Busoga United 2-0 Onduparaka

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA FC) reclaimed the Uganda Premier League summit after a narrow win over Mbarara City in a nail-biting encounter at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo on Wednesday.

Right back Herbert Achai scored the priceless goal that separated both sides as the Kasassiro Boys held nerves for 89 minutes to dethrone Vipers from the summit.

KCCA scored in the morning of the game after goalie Martin Elungat fumbled with Achai’s powerful low drive before the ball to bounced to jump the former and found it’s way hitting the back of the net in just a minute.

Elungat later kept out Mato Roger in a one-on-one challenge for a futile corner and later parried away Sadat Happy Anaku’s stunning left shot as KCCA continued mounting pressure for the second.

In the 33rd minute, lanky forward Jude Ssemugabi failed to capitalize on the defensive lapse from KCCA backline, delaying to shoot at goal when goalkeeper Derrick Ochan was off his line.

Youngster Thomas Kakaire too had a chance fluffed inside the box before KCCA’s ponytailed defender John Revita blocked his goal bound attempt after receiving from Ssemugabi on the hour mark.

In the 80th minute, Usama Arafat played through Sadat Anaku with a defense splitting pass but the latter was denied by glovesman Elungat.

Second half substitute Henry Kitegenyi forced a diving save from KCCA custodian Ochan Derrick at the death and the hosts held on for maximum points.

The slim win guided KCCA FC back on top of the 16-team log standings with 31 points after 13 games, dethroning Vipers SC who dropped to the second position with two points less.

Keeping their unbeaten run intact, KCCA will play against URA FC on Saturday 8th away in Ndejje before their rescheduled fixture against Onduparaka on 2nd February climaxes their first round schedule.

The Ankole Lions remained 12th on 14 points and will host Busoga United on Sunday 9th at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara for their match day 15.
