The Commander of Land Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has this Saturday urged the Ministry of Agriculture to continue sensitizing the people of Karamoja on commercial agriculture.
Muhoozi, who is on a tour of Karamoja, visited the Nabuin Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute.
The staff at the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) institute explained the various innovations they have come up with to help the Karamojong improve their farming practices.
“I thank you for your great work and for supplementing UPDF’s security work by demonstrating to the Karamojong people that modern farming techniques are much more profitable and safe than cattle rustling,” said Muhoozi.
Muhoozi yesterday cautioned civilians with illegal guns to stop livestock theft in Karamoja and urged them “to support government and UPDF efforts towards pacifying the region for transformation to take root.”
Nabuin Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (ZARDI) is one of the sixteen Public Agricultural Research Institutes of the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO).
Located in Lorengedwat sub-county Nabilatuk district, the institute researches crops, animal and natural resources, and carries out deliberate promotion of agricultural technologies, products and services that address specific needs of the North-Eastern agro-ecological zone.
