Uganda Revenue Authority (URA FC) midfielder Ivan Sserubiri has been slapped a fine of Shs. 500,000 and a one month suspension from any football related activities over his regrettable conduct.

Sserubiri threatened to attack female assistant referee Nantabo Lydia during a Uganda Premier League match between URA and Wakiso Giants on 28th December 2021 at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje.

At 1-1, Nantabo denied URA FC and Cromwell Rwothomio’s would-be second goal with an offiside call which prompted Sserubiri into threatening to attack. TV replays however, showed the assistant referee was spot on.

According to FUFA Competition Disciplinary Committee (CDP), Sserubiri breached the federation’s competition rules and regulations Article 31(2) and 31(3) hence putting the game into disrepute.

“FUFA Competitions Disciplinary Panel has handed URA FC player Sserubiri Ivan a one month suspension and fined him UGX 500,000 for breaching the FUFA Competitions rules and regulations Articles 31(2) and 31(3) during his club’s match with Wakiso Giants FC on 28th December 2021,” part of the statement released by FUFA read.

“Sserubiri threatened to violently attack assistant referee Nantabo Lydia Wanyama. The player’s conduct put the game of football into disrepute. The suspension expires on 3rd February 2022.”

The ban will see the Masaza cup product Sserubiri miss the club’s next three league outings against Gaddafi (Away), pacesetters KCCA FC (Home) and the rescheduled tie with Busoga United (Away).

He will however, return on Saturday 5th February when the Tax collectors play host to Busoga United in the return leg at home.
