• Buwekula 3-0 Buluuli
• Buddu 2-1 Kyadondo
Buwekula advanced to the last four stage of the 2021 famous Masaza Cup tournament after ousting Buluuli 3-0 in the first quarterfinal duel played at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Monday lunchtime.
A brace from Ismail Tamubula and captain Shafik Kakande lone strike ensured Frank Mulindwa’s side fire warning shots in their bid to lift the 17th edition.
Buwekula went in the driving seat in just five minutes when midfielder Isaac Musiima released Tamubula with a defense splitting pass for the latter to squeeze the ball inbetween the legs of advancing goalkeeper Abdul Salim Ssekamwa.
20 minutes later, Kakande doubled the lead with a brilliant diving header on the near post thanks to Lucky John Kasagga’s well laid inviting cross down the right flank.
Tamubula then completed his brace and furthered Buwekula’s lead to three with a fine placing past hapless custodian Ssekamwa on the 36th minute mark.
After a goalless second stanza, Buwekula became the first team to qualify for the semifinals of the Airtel-Uganda sponsored competition.
“The hard work and resilience exhibited throughout the different games is an indicator that all the participating teams are winners as they are striving towards a common goal, which goal is to attain the Masaza Cup Championship title come January 2022,” David Birungi, Public relations Manager at Airtel Uganda noted.
He added, “This year, Airtel Uganda committed Ushs. 650 million towards the tournament and we pledge our continued support towards such society impacting initiatives like the Masaza Cup. We wish the teams that are set for the quarterfinals all the best as they tussle on the pitch.”
In the other quarterfinal contest played in the evening, Buddu needed Geoffrey Gaganga (41′) and Bruno Bunyaga (75′) strikes to edge past Kyadondo 2-1 reaching the semis.
Geoffrey Gaganga headed 2016 champions Buddu past Kyadondo thanks to a Marvin Kavuma cross after 41 minutes. Patrick Oyeeti (85′) pulled one back for Kyadondo.
Action resumes on Tuesday with Kyaggwe taking on Mawokota (12PM) before Bulemeezi and Busiro faceoff (3PM) in a repeat of 2019 final.
