The State of Population Report 2021 indicates that the fertility rate in Uganda is still high and more than 40 percent of the population are under 15 years.
The report attributes the high growth rate to low use of family planning methods among women and girls of reproductive age and early marriage among others.
Sudhir Byaruhanga reports that the Director for Monitoring and Evaluation at the National Population Council Samuel Omwa has said there have been several recommendations in various areas but there are gaps which need government intervention.
